| MAXIM Evaporators represent a series of engineered and standard fresh water makers that can be used in numerous applications to satisfy your fresh water needs. The HJ models are available in five different sizes with fresh water capacity from 192 - 3,000 gpd. The TCF units are available in five different sizes, from 3,700 to 22,500 gpd. The engineered units are designed to satisfy fresh water needs from 15,000 gpd to over 1,000,000 gpd. |

Applications
The ocean is your reservoir with a MAXIM Evaporator. Offshore operations such as oil drilling rigs, production platforms or radar stations no longer need be dependent upon fresh water deliveries to maintain uninterrupted work schedules and continuous fresh water supply. Marine applications involving self propelled craft where large crews and long voyages are involved are ideal for MAXIM Evaporators. Producing water onboard creates substantial fuel savings and increases cargo capacity. MAXIM Heat Recovery Evaporators do not require fuel since they obtain their heat from engine jacket water, waste heat or exhaust steam. Accordingly, these evaporators represent today's most practical means to convert sea or brackish water to fresh water.
Quality Water
Water produced is high quality and normally contains less than 4 ppm of total dissolved solids (.25 grains of sea salt per gallon unlike the water produced by reverse osmosis process containing 200 to 500 ppm of dissolved solids). The high-quality water produced by MAXIM Evaporators can be used very effectively for make-up water for boilers, engine cooling systems, process in fishing boats yielding a higher price per pound at the market and mud makeup on offshore drilling rigs resulting in very high-quality mud. The fresh water produced from the MAXIM Evaporator technology always tastes fresh and clean, and because it is soft, it is ideal for drinking, cooking, showering and all other personal uses.
Quality Construction
The standard MAXIM Evaporator recovers waste heat utilizing circulating flash technology. The standard evaporator shell, sea water heater and distillate condenser bundles and all other surfaces in contact with sea water are constructed of 90-10 copper nickel for maximum corrosion resistance. Other parts of the unit in contact with sea water are constructed from non-ferrous alloy materials approved for marine service. Standard equipment furnished with these evaporators includes the sea water heater bundle, distillate condenser bundle, individual vacuum and brine eductors, distillate pump, pressure and vacuum gauges, thermometers and salinity monitoring equipment. All equipment with the exception of the salinity equipment is mounted on a common foundation and forms an extremely compact, lightweight unit which is delivered complete ready to install and operate. For processing higly corrosive or acidic influents, Maxim incorporates components made of materials most resistant to corrosion such as titanium or stainless steel.
Ease of Operation
To ensure the water purity of a Maxim unit, each model is equipped with a non-ferrous mesh separator and a large sight glass is incorporated in the shell to readily observe the boiling process and aid in troubleshooting. On the TCF models, the mesh is accessible externally via a supplied flange to allow easy inspection. A separate vacuum and brine eductor is included to improve evaporator performance. This type of evaporator, when fitted in parallel with the engine cooling system, will not interfere in any way with the engine operation.
Experience
Over 5,400 units have been manufactured and shipped worldwide for many different applications. Many of the United States aircraft carriers, submarines, Coast Guard vessels, Army support vessels and other vessels in the United States Defense establishment are equipped with MAXIM Evaporators producing fresh water. Technical support and replacement parts are available for units that have been in operation in excess of 30 years.
Compare These Features!
Compact Design - Standard units are completely packaged with all components mounted, piped and wired for immediate installation and hook-up. No field assembly required.
Low Scaling Characteristics – Each unit combines low temperature operation and patented internal flushing/thermal circulating design to minimize scaling.
Economical Chemical Treatment - Every evaporator operates under a vacuum resulting in water boiling at 135°F to 150°F thereby minimizing the number of feed water treatments required, unlike other units utilizing mechanical compression designs.
Safer to Use - Daily handling of dangerous acids is not required.
Low Pressure Piping - Operating under vacuum conditions and with water boiling below 150°F, these units do not require expensive and complicated 700-1000 psi pressure and filtration systems.
Eliminates High-Speed Compressors - Design does not use high-speed rotating equipment which is subject to high wear, downtime and replacement cost. These units eliminate compressors, potential leaky seals, critical wear and belt alignment and dangerous vapor surging.
Efficient Operation - Unique thermal design gives good water production over varied engine loads, temperature fluctuations and varying sea water temperatures. This feature is not available with other waste heat recovery evaporators.
No Feed Filtration – Maxim evaporators do not require cartridge filters or membrane replacement and produces high quality water even in the presence of foul feed water.
Thermal Circulation Shroud – All MAXIM TCF Heat Recovery Evaporators incorporate the exclusive thermal circulation/flash shroud, which surrounds the sea water heater tubes. This device performs three important functions:
- Provides thermal stability in rough seas
- Suppresses boiling at the tube surface to minimize scaling
- Forces water across the heater tube bundle to provide a constant cleaning action
